"Rockers" Film Review

1. How does Leroy "Horsemouth" Wallace from Rockers compare to Ivan Martin from The Harder They Come?

In my opinion, Horsemouth was way better than Ivan Martin. The two of them shares similar backgrounds, with the mafia and many crimes involved, but Horsemouth knew how to deal with it. While Ivan ends up trading marijuana and killing cops just to became famous, Horsemouth decides to fight against the mafia, stealing all their goods just to distribute them among the poor.

2. What is your favorite scene from the film? Why?

I think my favorite part was the Horsemouth statement after Sunshine is taken by her dad. I loved this part, in fact i was so shocked while watching it, because Horsemouth broke the fourth wall and talks directly to the camera, to us the viewers. I found that so powerful, and added to his words, to that anti-violence speech, I think it makes it a unique scene.

3.  Did you like/dislike the film? Why/Why Not?

I really enjoyed this film, I think more than "The Harder They Come". It has a nice story-telling, and I think is way more cinematographic than the first film. "Rockers" has nice shots, the photography is very beauty and once more the soundtrack is incredible. I think the only thing I didn't like of the movie, was that the in the beginning of the film is a little confusing differentiate the characters, because there are too many of them in the same scenes.

"The Harder They Come" Film Review

1.- In general, what did you like and dislike about the film?

I think the story is quite good, but it isn't well developed, neither in the script or technically. The photography of the film was a little confusing, so sometimes it was difficult to follow the story. The film editing was very interesting, it had a proposal on its own, and it was one of the strong points of the film to me, although I didn’t like it so much (in a very personal level). But what I think was the best and the thing I liked the most, was the music. The soundtrack was wonderful, specially the main theme The Harder They Come.
Who is your favorite character from the film?

2.- I don’t know if I could say I have a favorite character, since I didn’t liked anyone very much, and I think the movie is made in a way that only the main character is well developed. But the character I liked the most, was Hilton. It was very interesting to see one big musical producer in a Jamaica where the poverty and the crime are dominating, and also his personality was quite interesting, even when I couldn’t say he was a good person.

3.-Would you recommend this film to someone, why/why not?

Yes. Absolutely yes. Even I didn’t like it much, and also didn’t think it was very good, I truly think that these type of movies has to be seen. It shows us how films were made in those years, and also it shows some realities of countries and periods we did not know very well. The story behind the movie is very good, but it was developed poorly, and maybe, with more budget and production efforts, the results could have been much better.
